How did you end up in your line of business?
Hard work, determination, help from some great mentors and a little bit of luck.
How did you first get involved with ACG/ACG Boston?
I had attended several ACG events as a non-member while at previous firms as a great network of deal-flow. However, when I joined Gemini in August of 2014, they asked me to represent the team on the unique ACG Accelerator Program. Now I try to attend every large gathering both locally as well as with other chapters (Atlanta, Dallas, Raleigh, etc.).
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Build strong relationships with your peers. I had the privilege and budget to host a group of young professionals in PE and VC as part of our continued marketing efforts at NXT Capital. In addition to meeting a number of long-term friends, it ultimately led to a job in Private Equity.
Second best piece of advice; Choose experience and people over compensation. The Compensation will come.
What is something people don’t know about you?
My family owns a 1,800 acre farm in Iowa that has been in the family for more than 100 years.
What is your most satisfying personal and/or professional accomplishment?
Sourcing, negotiation and closing my first deal. I still have the signed term sheet. I am still waiting for my first significant exit.
What is the best vacation you’ve ever had?
A 36 day backpacking trip across Europe post-graduation. Four friends visited nine countries and 16 cities prior to starting our respective careers.
